What it is
The Ball Coach is Pocket Radar's non-Bluetooth sports radar. It's small enough for a pocket, runs on 2 AAA batteries, and shows ball speed or exit velocity on its own screen. It has a hands-free mode for tripod use and a memory-clear function. That's the whole feature list, and that's the point.

Who it's for
- Parents who want a quick, honest number from behind the backstop.
- Coaches who don't want to manage a phone at practice.
- Older or non-techy users. One button, one number.
- A second gun for a program that already has a Smart Coach or a Stalker.
Its limits
- No history. It doesn't save sessions or export data. Write numbers down.
- No video or call-outs. You have to look at the screen.
- Can't connect to the Smart Display. Only the Smart Coach does.
- 120 ft range, no spin rate. Same as the Smart Coach.
- Easy to buy the wrong model. The Traffic/Classic PR1000 looks similar but isn't for ball sports.

Specs and prices from each maker's own page or store (or the named retailer), checked Oct 24, 2026. Accuracy figures are the makers' claims. Prices change; we never show Amazon prices.
- vs Smart Coach: $100 more for the app, video, CSV export and Smart Display support. Side by side.
- vs Bushnell Velocity: both list ±1 mph, but the Bushnell is discontinued, weighs 19 oz, takes C batteries and reads a ball out to 90 ft.
- vs Sports Radar SR3600: a little cheaper at retailers, but a shorter listed baseball range (about 60 ft) and no published accuracy spec on the retailer page we checked.
- vs JUGS Radar Cube: the Cube is a display box with 3-inch numbers that everyone can see. It tops out at 100 mph and isn't handheld.
- vs Stalker Sport 3 Connect: more than twice the price, for team-level range and features.

FAQ
Does the Pocket Radar Ball Coach work with the app?
No. Pocket Radar says the Ball Coach keeps all measurements inside the radar and does not work with the Pocket Radar app. Only the Smart Coach has Bluetooth.
How accurate is the Ball Coach?
±1 mph, the same spec Pocket Radar gives all its radars. Range on a baseball is up to 120 ft.
Can the Ball Coach measure exit velocity?
Yes. Pocket Radar lists exit velocity off the bat for both the Ball Coach and Smart Coach.
Can I use it hands-free on a tripod?
Yes. It has a hands-free mode, and Pocket Radar sells a tripod mount ($24.99) and a universal mount ($34.99).
Is the Pocket Radar 'Classic' or Traffic model the same thing?
No. Pocket Radar says the Traffic/Classic PR1000 is for vehicle and runner speeds and is not intended for ball sports. Make sure you buy the Ball Coach (PR1000-BC) or the Smart Coach.
